Bénédicte LAJARRIGE is a self-taught French artist born in 1969 in Auxerre (Yonne), she lives and works in Auvergne.
In 1990, after a career in interior design, Bénédicte took up artistic painting, a teenage dream that has never left her.
Concentrating on pure creation rather than a specific theme, message or theory, she creates paintings that capture light, accentuate transparency and, above all, find their main expression in colour.
Of colour and its variations, "I first create my palette in search of sensations and harmonies. Once the palette and canvas format have been chosen, knives, brushes and paintbrushes go to work, always to music. Freeing the gesture, I find the rhythm and breath of my composition.
Somewhere between abstract and figurative, without sketches or photographic support; a journey into my imagination, full of the power and emotion of colour.
"Colour, its strength and power, but also the balance of ying and yang, surprises and requires the eye to rest, question, see and interpret in order to make the artist's canvas its own.
Like a sorcerer's apprentice, the artist's gestures are sure and instinctive, creating a unique canvas that combines boldness and delicacy, strength and gentleness, love and fear.
These are veritable flights to freedom, the emanation of dreams in an explosion of fireworks."
